![]() Amora the Enchantress . Unlike many deities in fiction, she has no real world counterpart; though she has the qualities of several mythological figures merged into her personality. While still in adolescence, she ran away to the land of the Norns and apprenticed herself to Karnilla, one of the most powerful sorceresses in all the Asgardian dimension. There she studied all the basic arts of Asgardian magic until Karnilla expelled her for being too undisciplined. She picked up further sorcerous skills from seducing other Asgardian magi and wizards. However, Brunnhilda soon became aware of Amora's immoral ends, and sought to end their partnership. Amora then used her magic to entrap Brunnhilda within a mystical crystal of souls. Only relatively recently was Brunnhilda freed from Amora's spell. But while the Executioner was so infatuated with the Enchantress that he would do anything for her, she continually withheld her favors from him to keep him in thrall. Thor saved Foster and defeated both the Enchantress and Executioner. She was among the many menaces assembled by Doctor Doom to disrupt the wedding of Reed Richards and Susan Storm. Her most frequent adversaries during these years were Thor and the Avengers. She used one of Zemo's machines to transform one of the Baron's mercenaries into the first Power Man. As the rift was forming within a club in New York, the Enchantress auditioned as a performer there, confident that her lovely voice (and physical beauty) would easily win her the part. This would have been the case, if not for Blaire's subsequent audition. The club manager, though obviously smitten with the Asgardian woman, reluctantly admitted that Dazzler's voice was superior. Enraged at having her plans thwarted (and at the perceived slight of having another woman chosen in her stead), Amora sought to both claim the mystical energies of the rift while also destroying her rival by aging Blaire to death while she was on stage performing. Unfortunately for the Enchantress, many of the city's super- powered heroes, seeing Dazzler as one of their own, were in the audience to support the young woman. They came to her aid, and in the ensuing battle, Amora was forced to use so much magic that the rift was destabilized. With ultimate power now beyond her grasp, the Enchantress chose to flee, rather than fight a pointless battle. However, she and the Executioner both came to Asgard's aid in its recent war with Surtur and his legions from Muspelheim. The Enchantress and Executioner joined with the heroes of Asgard, and earned the right to stay in Asgard once again. Amora also became involved with the guardian of Asgard's Rainbow Bridge, Heimdall. In retaliation for her younger sister Lorelei's rude refusal to join her in battling Surtur, the Enchantress used sorcery to make Lorelei fall in love with Loki. Despite those examples of heroism, the Enchantress basically remains an opportunist seeking her own ends. Finally tiring of the Enchantress's contemptuous treatment of him, the Executioner nobly sacrificed his life on a mission with Thor into Hel, the realm of the goddess Hela. ![]() Despite the fact that Amora had always lead the Executioner on, she did genuinely grieve for him. Amora developed a crippling fear of danger as a result of the death of the Executioner, and took solace with Thor. The two soon developed a romantic relationship. She eventually used her magic to escape and returned to Earth. Discovering Thor was missing (he had presumably sacrificed himself to defeat Onslaught), Amora searched for the Asgardian gods, who had at this time been turned into mortals by Odin's magic. Amora soon helped the gods to reclaim their former glory by defeating the machinations of Set. ![]() Amora The Enchantress. Amora returned to Asgard and also restarted her relationship with Thor. During Ragnarok, she was killed during the initial attack by Loki's forces. He restored the city of Asgard (currently located in central Oklahoma), and awakened many Asgardians, who were sleeping within various mortals scattered across the world. It was Thor's intention to awake only those Asgardians whom he deemed noble and trustworthy, while leaving others (such as Hela and Loki) in their mortal state, unaware of their true nature. Apparently he felt that Amora, despite her previous heroic acts (and their romantic liaisons) fell into this 'untrustworthy' category, and he made no particular effort to seek her out. Loki, however, having gained some awareness of his true self despite being locked within the form of a mortal woman, managed to manipulate Thor into waking many, if not all of the remaining Asgardians. Amora was brought forth, and promptly departed for some far corner of the earth. Unlike the rest of her brethren, Amora did not immediately return to Asgard and instead began manipulating reality by attacking the World Tree, Yggdrasil, in order to resurrect Skurge and end her loneliness as she finally realized how much he meant to her. She was ultimately thwarted by Thor, Loki, and Blader, who convinced her that she was hurting the other Nine Worlds with her magic and would only dishonor the death of Skurge by resurrecting and releasing him from Valhalla. The Enchantress appeared in Vanaheim, where she told Thor she would have vengeance upon him. Let’s explore the best movies of 2011. Movies Idris Elba Thinks Matthew McConaughey Would Be A Perfect Fit For Thor's Family In an interview with MTV News, Idris Elba and. This contributes somewhat to her superhuman strength, her durability and her weight. She can withstand great impacts, exposure to temperature extremes, and powerful energy blasts that would severely injure or kill a human being with no injury to herself. In such an event, Amora's superior metabolism enables her to heal injuries much faster and more extensively than a normal human would be capable of. However, she is unable to regenerate missing limbs or organs without the aid of powerful magical assistance. Unlike some other god pantheons, such as the Olympians, the Asgardians do age, though it is at a pace vastly slower than a human. Although she is several millenia old in age, Amora has the appearance and vitality of an Asgardian woman in her prime. She is, however, immune to all known Earthly diseases and infections. The Enchantress’s strength and proficiency with magic is less great than that of Karnilla, Midgard's former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange, or even the part- Faltinian Clea, Mistress of the Mystic Arts of the Dark Dimension (with the Flames of Regency), yet her skill is still high enough to rank her as among the top twenty magic practitioners in all of Asgard, with enough power even in the Earthly realm to cloud the sight of Agamotto through his Orb for hours from the view of Doctor Strange. She can use her sorcery to generate powerful blasts of concussive force, heat, or light. She can also alter her appearance, taking the shape of other humanoid beings or teleport herself and others across great distances. She has enchanted her lips so that a single kiss is sufficient to make virtually any man a slave to her will, obedient to her every command, for about a week. Subsequent kisses enable her to enthrall someone's will indefinitely. Her knowledge of arcane lore enables her to cast spells with a variety of specific effects. Among the many spells she has employed include illusion- casting, temporary paralysis, deflection of matter and energy, inter- dimensional travel, and elemental conversion. Amora has amassed considerable knowledge of mystical lore, and is an expert in the art of seduction, both natural and supernatural. A prolonged absence from Asgard tends to diminish her powers altogether, though they never fade completely. Although she has a superhuman physique, Amora has little to no experience in hand- to- hand combat, typically relying on minions to fight for her. She is by no means an inventor or technology expert, but she is quite intelligent, and able to operate such technology in a basic and effective fashion. Thor is undoubtedly one of the strongest beings in the Marvel Universe, and is one of the key members of the Avengers. Along with his fellow Asgardians, Thor possesses a set of rare superpowers and abilities, many of which cannot be replicated by anyone else. Much of that is due to his trusty hammer Mjolnir. In Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, Odin says, “Whoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” It’s a recurring theme throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is something we last saw in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron in which Thor allowed his fellow teammates to test their worthiness. None but Steve Rogers is able to move the hammer, which is fitting considering that Thor has requested that, in the case of his death, Mjolnir be passed on to Steve Rogers. While we’ve already seen Thor use a few of his powers, the vast majority of his abilities have eluded the big screen. Perhaps with Thor: Ragnarok on the way, we’ll finally see him utilize his full potential. Until then, most of his powers remain unknown to casual moviegoers. So to help with that, here are 1. Superpowers You Didn’t Know Thor Has. God Blast. As previously said, it’s without a doubt that Thor, the God of Thunder, is one of the strongest beings in the Marvel Universe. He has knocked out Namor the Sub- Mariner with a single punch; he’s stalemated Hulk in battle, and he can push the Tower of Pisa with one finger. And over the course his many millennia, Thor has fought and defeated countless enemies across the nine realms – but, beyond his brute strength, he relies heavily on his inherent powers to achieve victory. For a long time, Thor’s powers were channeled through his mystical hammer Mjolnir, but due to a series of rather harrowing events, Doctor Strange found it necessary to bind Thor’s lifeforce with Mjolnir, and thus the two became virtually one and the same. Therefore, if Mjolnir were to be damaged, so would Thor, and vice versa. While that could be considered a bad thing, it’s not all bad. By being bound to the hammer, Thor can accurately use his ultimate power, the God Blast, a destructive blast force that can destroy and kill practically anything, including immortals. Perhaps this is something we’ll see Thor use when the Avengers finally battle Thanos in the (soon- to- be- renamed) Avengers: Infinity War. Super Speed. Thor is a god, and when wielding Mjolnir, he can travel at ludicrous speeds. But how fast is he, exactly? In some versions, Thor is not only one of the strongest characters in the Marvel Universe, but he is also one of the fastest, which is evident by his ability to travel faster than the speed of light. Moving that fast has allowed Thor to take down Quicksilver (X- Men. Whenever Thor flies in the movies, you’ll notice him spin Mjolnir at an intense speed. In the comics, if he uses that speed with his cape, instead, he’ll be able to create hurricane- like winds. While there is no quantifiable way to determine how fast Thor is, he once said that, on Earth, he can travel at supersonic speeds, but in space, he could travel around the Sun and across the universe in a matter of seconds. That is all probably due to Mjolnir’s power transcending both time and space. Yes, time – Thor once traveled through time. Transformation. While many characters in the DC Comics universe have secret identities and civilian personas, not many characters in Marvel’s Universe, especially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, adhere to the concept of alter- egos. Fans of Branagh’s Thor movie will remember that Odin sent his son to Earth – powerless – to teach him some humility and once again become worthy of Mjolnir. The same thing happened in the comics, albeit with some differences. For one, Thor came to Earth without any memories of Asgard and, instead, was given the identity of crippled medical student named Donald Blake. After a series of events, Donald Blake happened to come across Mjolnir disguised as a walking stick. When he slammed it on the ground, he transformed into the god Thor – complete with the looks and powers of the Thunder God. For years, Thor would continue his medical practice and use the hammer to transform between the mortal Donald Blake and the god Thor, but, eventually, he gave up his alter- ego and returned home to Asgard. In recent years, Marvel has all but erased Donald Blake from existence in an effort to try and make Thor a solo character. As such, Donald Blake is now a separate person all- together and is no longer bound to the God of Thunder. All- Tongue. There are roughly seven thousand languages on Earth, many of which are spoken by less than one hundred thousand people. And while many people have an elementary proficiency of more than one language, being fluent in them all is virtually impossible. If mastering all of the Earth’s languages seems like a daunting task, just imagine how many languages there must be in the universe, and mastering those would be even far more challenging. Being an Asgardian god and the protector of the Nine Realms, Thor’s job must involve conversing with drastically different races, many of which speak different languages. While it’s easier for filmmakers to have everyone speak English, so that audiences can keep track of the dialogue, in the comics, Thor speaks all sorts of languages. Well, sort of. He speaks whatever language he wants, but with the power of the All- Tongue, whoever he’s speaking to will automatically hear him in their native language. Invulnerability. It’s commonly known that Thor is an Asgardian god and the son of Odin, but it’s not many fans that know – or, perhaps, realize – that Thor is also the son of the Elder Goddess Gaea aka Mother Earth, which is why Thor has such an affinity for Earth. Being an Asgardian/Elder God hybrid (akin to that of a demigod), Thor has been granted immunity to all of Earth’s diseases and infirmities, as well as extreme heat and subzero temperatures. In addition to his immunity, Thor is virtually invulnerable. Not only is his skin is impenetrable to human weaponry and tools, but he also has flown into the center of the Sun (as well as other stars), withstood the weight of planets, resisted blasts from Odin, Celestials, and the Asgardian weapon Destroyer, and has survived – unscathed – the blast from the Doomsday Bomb. By the sound of it, Thor is a god who seemingly cannot be harmed. But the fact of the matter is, he can; it just takes a lot of power – or magic. Superhuman Senses. When thinking about a superhero with superhuman senses – someone who can hear people miles away or see things no one else can see – people think about Superman. Which makes sense, but the fact is, not many people realize that Thor’s superhuman senses far outmatch that of Superman’s. Once again, thanks to Thor’s Asgardian/Elder God physiology, Thor’s sense are heightened to an unprecedented level. As previously mentioned, Thor was able to take down Quicksilver, who was moving faster than the speed of light, due to his ability to track objects at FTL speeds. Additionally, Thor (comparable to Heimdall) can see objects that lie on the edge of the solar system. As for sound, Thor has claimed to be able to hear cries from the other side of the world. The fact is, Thor possesses a range of superhuman senses. While his ability of superhuman sight comes from his Asgardian side of the family, many of his other senses come from his mother’s. Superhuman Healing. As everyone knows, Thor is the God of Thunder – which comes with a few perks. For one, he’s nearly invincible (as previously mentioned). But do not mistake him being nearly invincible for him being invulnerable. He can be harmed, and, if the circumstances are right, even killed, though that is nigh- impossible. Like several other characters in the Marvel Universe, Thor possesses superhuman healing in addition to his near invulnerability. While he cannot regrow a lost limb, like Deadpool, he can regenerate rather quickly, similar to Wolverine, just not quite so quick. With the many battles he’s fought, including the ones alongside the Avengers, it’s useful to have an ability that heals scorched limbs and broken bones. But sometimes it’s not just about his body. Thor’s powers are not unlimited and required time to be replenished. So, at one point, Thor had Odin’s metalsmith Faliki create a casket that would allow Thor to enter a coma- like state which would restore his Thorpower and heal him quicker than if he were to dive into Thorsleep separately. Earth Control. In the early 2. Asgardians found themselves trapped inside the bodies of ordinary humans. And that’s where they remained until Thor returned from his deep sleep – after first breaking the Ragnarok cycle – and built a new Asgard above the state of Oklahoma. When Thor returned, he was essentially reborn, and had discovered his power over the Earth; something gifted to him from his mother, Gaea. Now, after accepting his Elder God heritage, not only could Thor summon the weather, but he could also control parts of the Earth, and even create chasms spanning across the continent as well as causing earthquakes. In times of need, when weapons and brute strength are not the answer, perhaps ravines separating Thor from his enemies becomes necessary. That is something we see Thor do in Africa, shortly after the beginning of the character’s third volume. Mind Resistance. We know that Thor has an indomitable will, but his mind is far stronger than most people realize. In addition to having a mind- body relationship with his trusty hammer Mjolnir (which obeys Thor’s mental commands), Thor has a natural ability for mind/mental resistance. However, that’s not to say he hasn’t been mind- controlled before. Over the course of his many years, Thor has fought and defeated several telepathic mutants and resisted the music from Ares, a mind attack from Glory, and a mind blast from Super- Beast, and he has resisted the gravest of Loki’s spells.
